I've been participating in a forum at RNID,  England about Notched Music Therapy. http://www.rnid.org.uk/community/forums/tinnitus/notched_music_therapy/?pn=3 Here is an article from Psychology Today about the subject. http://bit.ly/7c8IuR . According to the trial, Notched Music Therapy helped to decrease the loudness of the ear ringing of the subjects. It's been a  year since I've had this condition and realize that, at present, there is no cure. Lowering the  noise would be a big help. I love music and  have been trying to reproduce the "notched music" myself. I started with this tone generator http://www.nch.com.au/tonegen/index.html in order to find the exact tone of my ringing. I determined that my tone was 6700 Hz. I'm using a program called Audacity and was able to notch some music to remove this frequency. Audacity has a notched filter and I set the settings at 2, 6700 Hz  and a Q value of 1. If you get this far you'll know what I am talking about, if not, let me know. I haven't noticed any change as yet, but have been enjoying listening to music again.

I just read some of the other comments on this site and, even though I do not see a lot of traffic here, I find the comments to be excellent. I think that we are all involved in a self-help process. Only we can hear the noise in our ears and cannot depend on others, unless they are fellow sufferers to understand.

When the ringing started, I went overboard and tried to do anything to get rid of it. It's wasn't easy, but now, I've gotten used to it. I think that the best remedy is to just be involve in some sort of therapy that will hopefully give a little comfort. It's different for everyone.

I love music so I've been trying to reproduce the study that I talked about in my first post. I didn't get the tone right and had to change all my music. I find that I get some relief from the notched music that I listen to. I might add that so far it has cost me nothing except my own time and I've been in touch with a lot of interesting people including sound engineers.

My Doctor has been ok.  I discussed music therapy with him and he is sending me to another test to identify the exact sound frequency of my Tinnitus. I'm pretty sure that I've got it right, but I'll also get another hearing test.

Essentially, what I'm doing is listening to my own music that I've notched ( for lack of a better word, actually I'm using a band stop software) for one to two hours a day. I think it helps. There was a clinical trial that showed positive results and hopefully it will work for me. If not I'll try something else, but for now I've found that this is the best thing for me.
